Hi. My name is Rachel, I’m a 24 year old Australian/American living in Western Australia. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2009, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) not long after. Shortly after my diabetes diagnosis (or DODD as I like to call it…) I co-founded Young Western Australian Insulin Takers (YWAIT). Shortly after that I was asked to apply for, and accepted in to, the International Diabetes Federation’s Young Leaders in Diabetes Program. You can find a pretty in depth bio and a bit more about my journey on my profile page.
This is a page for me to write about my experiences – the profound ones, and the not-so-profound ones. A place for me to explore my deep thoughts around those experiences. An avenue for me to express myself. To work through my conflicted feelings, my health battles, the issues I encounter in my relationships, and the ‘what am I going to do with my life’ thing. This is a way for me to come to resolutions, to grow, learn, connect, and get support. But this is also a chance for me to give support, to inspire, to empower myself and hopefully others.
I also have an amazingly supportive boyfriend, three wonderful younger brothers, three great parents, a passion for drama and the arts, a love affair with chocolate, an interest in all things health including a love of yoga and good food, an appreciation of wine, and a pretty decent arsenal of dance moves.
I hope you enjoying reading my stories, as I endeavor to live as best I can with the hand I’ve been dealt.
